Edgar Ugarte, Program Manager for San Mateo County Transportation Authority,
said construction on the next auxiliary lane will begin in the spring of the year 2000
and will take place between Ralston and Hillsdale on and off ramps.
Council Members urged Director Goode and Manager Ugarte to keep the pressure
on CalTrans to address the more pressing needs for auxiliary lanes at the Woodside
Interchange as well as others in Redwood City within the 101 corridor.
MEMO 2/4/97
City Manager Everett urged the Council, and the Council agreed to contact state
and local representatives, as well as the members of the Legislature's Transportation
Committees to alert them to the need for faster action on transportation issues in
Redwood City. Staff will provide background material for Council use.
MEMO 2/4/97
3. Extension of Route 84-Marsh Road to Seaport Boulevard, Preliminary Design:
Edgar Ugarte, SMCT A Program Manage r (702);
REPORT: Alignment Alternatives for Route 84 Extension ITom Marsh Road to
Woodside Road/Seaport Boulevard in San Mateo County Prepared for San Mateo
County Transportation Authority, December 5, 1996
Manager Ugarte described the five alternatives which all assumed that the City will
realign E. Bayshore with Blomquist at Seaport Boulevard.
City Manager Everett and the Council said none of the Alternatives address the
issue of the traffic problems at the Woodside/Seaport Interchange, and it didn't
make sense for the City to pay for the realignment project at Blomquist. Also, they
had serious concerns about the impacts on Mobile Home Parks and businesses on E.
Bayshore Road.
Manager Ugarte said the Route 84 Extension would be Step No.1 in traffic
mitigation at the WoodsidelSeaport Interchange. However, the City Manager and
Council Members voiced their concerns that Steps 2, 3 and 4 might never happen if
Step No. I was done, and CalTrans, Menlo Park and Atherton would never be
motivated to spend the resources to address the issue, although residents and
businesses of those jurisdictions are big users of that Interchange.
4. Redwood Shores Traffic Assessment District: City Staff (702);
REPORT: Shores Transportation Improvement District (STID), Final Report,
January 30, 1997, prepared by Brian Kangas Foulk (Phase II, building
on the 1987 Crain Study and Phase One BKF Report.)
ADJOURNED REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING MINUTE BOOK NO. 55 FEBRUARY 3, 1997
MINUTES Page No. 128 PAGE 7
