<br /> Vice Mayor Howard suggested that Item 4 be reworded, and asked if the <br /> City's Code Enforcement Department had sufficient tools to achieve the <br /> goals established by Council. <br /> After Council discussion there was general consensus that Items 4 and 6 <br /> were somewhat related, and that the City's Code of Ordinances needed to be <br /> reviewed to improve Code Enforcement ability. <br /> MEMO 2/8/97 <br /> Mayor Hartnett said Items 4 and 6 are on different subjects and should be <br /> kept separate. However, a review of the City's Code of Ordinances overlaps <br /> both items. <br /> In response to staff comments regarding the Council's code enforcement <br /> goals, Mayor Hartnett said Item 4 was concerned with health and safety <br /> issues in the City, emphasizing the remediation of substandard structures. <br /> City Manager Everett summed up by directing Organizational Specialist <br /> Barbour to rewrite Item 4 "continuing to enforce health and safety issues"; <br /> and Item 6 would remain the same; but both items might be combined with <br /> further dot points including the review of City's Codes. <br /> MEMO 2/8/97 <br /> In response to staffs questions regarding proposed Item 12, impacting the <br /> downtown area, Councilman Claire described how the previous Business <br /> Improvement District had begun "to bring the downtown area back to some <br /> degree", before its untimely demise.
