Status and future efforts of Redwood City 2000 - Jack Greenalch (304) <br /> - <br /> 1. REPORT: Jack Greenalch, February 8,1997 <br /> Former Redwood City Mayor Jack Greenalch, member of the Redwood City 2000 <br /> Community Action Team, showed overheads and provided a background of the <br /> Committee's work. He introduced Redwood City 2000 members in the audience: <br /> Coordinator Beth Ross, Pete Hughes, John Dempsey and Parks, Recreation and <br /> Community Services Superintendent Corinne Centeno. <br /> Mayor Greenalch described how the Committee established the principles and Vision <br /> Statement that guides the Committee's work. He advised that one of the principles <br /> they have embraced is that what the Committee will propose will "cost no additional <br /> dollars, beyond what are presently being expended." Greenalch said the principles <br /> they established will guide every action that the committee will recommend, and their <br /> Vision was developed on those principles. <br /> Mayor Greenalch listed the Principles of Redwood City 2000. He highlighted some <br /> of the principles of a healthy community: <br /> All members take responsibility for their physical, emotional and spiritual health and <br /> that of their families. <br /> - <br /> People who are taking responsibility for their own lives have access to the resources <br /> they need to satisfy their basic human needs, and if they are not able to satisfy their <br /> basic human needs on their own, they are provided with these resources; <br /> We want to have a community which every person's uniqueness is recognized and that <br /> are treated fairly. <br /> We want to have a community of quality education. <br /> We want to have a community where people have access to cultural and recreational <br /> activities. <br /> We want to have a community in which people are well informed, adequately <br /> represented and participate at the level that they choose to participate. <br /> We want to have a community that puts an emphasis on the natural environment. <br /> Mayor Greenalch explained how these principles determined what people would be <br /> asked to do to achieve them. The principles led the Committee to develop a Vision <br /> '-- Statement in December, 1996.
