This item removed ITom the Consent Calendar by Councilman Ruskin for consideration at <br /> this time. <br /> Minutes of the Council work shop of February 8, 1997, the Council closed session of <br /> February 10, 1997, and the Council regular meeting of February 10, 1997 as submitted; <br /> Councilman Ruskin corrected the regular meeting Minutes of February 10, 1997, page 9, <br /> second paragraph to read: "Councilman Ruskin requested a copy of Redwood City 2000's <br /> master list of major activities throughout the City so the Council could see if anything was <br /> omitted...." In place of "Councilman Ruskin requested a list of Redwood City 2000's <br /> major activities so the Council.. ..". <br /> MIS: RUSKINIBUCHAN TO APPROVE THE MINUTES AS CORRECTED. <br /> CARRIED BY UNANIMOUS VOICE VOTE WITH COUNCILMAN LEIPZIG <br /> ABSTAINING FROM THE FEBRUARY 8, 1997 MEETING MINUTES ONLY DUE TO <br /> IDS ABSENCE FROM THAT MEETING. <br /> MINUTE ORDER NO. 97-038 <br /> -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> G. This item removed ITom the Consent Calendar by Mayor Hartnett for consideration at this <br /> time. <br /> Redwood City Police Officers Association Memorandum of Understanding: (905) <br /> REPORT: Director of Human Resources Rivera-Pena, February 24,1997 <br /> Mayor Hartnett said "while it has been a very long process of negotiations, I think it is <br /> correct to say that the understanding that has been reached is an excellent one for the City <br /> of Redwood City and the Police Officers Association. Sometimes it takes longer than <br /> anyone would like to resolve negotiated issues, but also sometimes even with that length <br /> of time a result comes out which is better than any party might have anticipated. <br /> "It is my view, that the result evidenced by this Memorandum of Understanding is better <br /> than perhaps anyone might have envisioned at the beginning of the process, in the middle <br /> of the process or as we were getting close to the end of the process. It came out through <br /> diligent work and effort by representatives of the Police Officers Association and our City <br /> negotiating team, and I think they should all be applauded for their perseverance and <br /> diligence with which they approached this. We are all gratified that it is successfully <br /> completed and that the police officers, if the motion is approved as I expect tonight, will <br /> receive enhanced compensation and other benefits that are called for in the agreement. <br /> "We also know that it won't be long before we have to begin the process again with the <br /> Police Officers Association and we have other upcoming labor negotiations for other <br /> bargaining units that are not too far in the future, and I know that the Council is interested <br /> REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING MTNUTE BOOK NO. 55 FEBRUARY24,1997 <br /> MINUTES Page No. 168 PAGE 7 <br />
