Barbour advised the audience <br /> that by focusing attention on the Council's top five priorities, staff would be able to direct <br /> its time and the City's resources to accomplish those projects that furthered the Council's <br /> goals. <br /> Specialist Barbour collected the Public Relations Index Score Sheets ITom Council and <br /> said they would be tabulated to show what proposed CIP projects Council Members <br /> believed needed the most community outreach information and public relations efforts. He <br /> advised that projects with very low visibility were not less important projects, they merely <br /> did not need as many public awareness programs and informational materials as the highly <br /> visible projects would need. <br /> The following Priorities were presented and amended, and new Priorities were added, at the <br /> February 8,1997 Work Shop: <br /> Economic Development <br /> Underlining denotes Priority added for or during the February 8 Work Shop. <br /> *Denotes guidance rather than action item. <br /> 1. The climate we set for business must be positive. This should be the prevailing attitude <br /> through City government. * <br /> 2. The City Council supports the San Mateo Historic Museum in Downtown Redwood <br /> City. We need to work closely with the County on this and other land use issues <br /> related to the development of the County Government Campus. <br /> 3. City Council will implement as appropriate the joint Chamber/City econornic strategy. <br /> 4. City Council wants to continue to emphasize the enforcement of the City's health and <br /> safety codes, with particular emphasis on the following: <br /> . Impact of code enforcement on substandard structures and property <br /> . Improvement of commercial and entry-way areas beginning with El Camino <br /> . Review of City Codes <br /> 5. The City Council's interest in improving the economic posture of Redwood City should <br /> not be construed as a desire to manage the private sector. * <br /> 6. The recent decision of the Planning Commission regarding land use at the Port sets the <br /> stage for an overall discussion of the Port as a Redwood City economic asset. <br /> 7.
