Mayor Pro Tern Howard said that staff had been in contact with Mrs. Quijano, and said
"We are very committed to having U.c. Berkeley in downtown Redwood City. We are
doing everything we can to help this project and to help this project succeed." She said
that staff would continue to provide Mrs. Quijano with as much information as possible.
Mayor Pro Tem Howard said, "We think (this project) is absolutely vital to the success of
downtown. We are not going to walk away."
MEMO 3/11/97
Director Church said, "The relocation that Mrs. Quijano will be going through, as we
understand your (Council) actions, will happen irrespective of any further extensions.
That is in fact something that you have committed to complete, whether this developer is
the one to build the project or not. That is an irrevocable act, unless you as the Council
decide to change that decision.... That will play itself out. Once the purchase agreement is
signed (scheduled next week) then the relocation consultant will give the tenants 90-days
notice, and that will start the clock running."
Mayor Pro Tem Howard asked if anyone one else wished to speak on this matter. No
one came forward.
MIS: CLAIREIRUSKIN.
