STAFF REPORTS <br /> A. Accept Rebate of Property Tax Refunds ITom the City and County of San Francisco. <br /> Redwood City as a member of Bay Area Water Users Association (BA WUA) is entitled <br /> to a portion of a court ordered rebate. (505, S02) <br /> REPORT: Public Works Services Director Ingram, March 24,1997 <br /> Director Ingram, the City's voting representative to the Bay Area Water Users Association, <br /> provided a brief history of the Association: BAWUA, was formed in 1984 with San Francisco <br /> and suburban water useTS who buy their water from the Hetch Hetchy System as its members. <br /> Director Ingram said BA WUA has become an important instrument in protecting the City's <br /> interests in water resource management, and through its arbitration efforts with San Francisco, its <br /> members will realize $6.1 million in future savings on wholesale rates. <br /> Director Ingram said Redwood City's portion of the subject court ordered rebate, a one-time <br /> windfall to the City's Water Enterprise Fund, would be $261,705. He reported that the rebate <br /> was "due to a to-year law suit and court battle over the imposition of property taxes on San <br /> Francisco Public Utilities Commission properties in three of the major counties in the Bay ATea" <br /> (San Mateo, Santa Clara and Alameda.) <br /> Director Ingram commended the staffs of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission and <br /> the City and County of San Francisco for pursuing this case with diligence for ten years, and then <br /> "being scrupulously careful about adheTing to the agreement to make sure (BA WUA members) <br /> got what was due us." <br /> Director Ingram said the funds would be deposited in the Water Enterprise Fund <br /> Unappropriated Balance and disposition of those funds would be discussed first by the Council <br /> Utilities Committee and then the whole Council in the course of rate-setting and budget-decision <br /> making meetings over the next few months. <br /> MIS: LEIPZIGILA BERGE.
