ITERATION OF THE MOTION.
MIS: CLAIREIBUCHAN TO ALLOCATE $10,000 TO THE EMERGENCY HUNGER FUND
FOR A SIX MONTH PERIOD; A BUDGET WILL BE PREPARED BEFORE ANY FUNDS
ARE DISBURSED; AT THE DISCRETION OF THE HOUSING AND HUMAN CONCERNS
COMMITTEE THEY WILL REVIEW THE APPLICATION AND COME BACK TO COUNCIL
WITH ANY FURTHER RECOMMENDATIONS BEFORE THE SIX MONTH PERIOD IS UP
AS TO ADDITIONAL FUNDING IF REQUIRED
CARRIED BY UNANIMOUS ROLL CALL VOTE.
MINUTE ORDER NO. 97-102
MIS: CLAIREIBUCHAN TO INCREASE THE FUNDING FOR TEWCI TO THE $30,000
LEVEL RATHER THAN THE $25,000 AS RECOMMENDED
In response to Councilman Claire's comments, HHCC Chairman Bain said the
Committee recommended only $25,000 this year because it "felt that TEWCI should be
doing more in the way of special events, such as they did for the playground, which they
so successfully raised funds for a few years ago."
Sue Keely, Member of the HHCC, said "In addition to the issue that we had hoped they
would step outside there own neighborhood to get support, maybe from service clubs, to
get other people to help them raise money... What this is about is a very small amount of
money that we have with a whole lot of folks needing it." Mrs. Keely said that the
Committee as a group felt that everyone who asked for funding had "great ideas and a
great heart to do the kind of work that they do." She said the Committee had such a small
amount of money, and so many worthy agencies, it was difficult to continue to give such a
large portion of the HSFA total available funds to one organization, especially when it had
not maximized its fund raising activities.
Councilman Claire said he was well aware of the difficulties of fund raising, and
commended TEWCI for its good work. Councilman Claire expressed his dismay that
corporate America had not stepped forward to provide funding for these worthy agencies.
ITERATION OF THE MOTION.
MIS: CLAIREIBUCHAN TO INCREASE THE FUNDING FOR TEWCI TO THE $30,000
LEVEL RATHER THAN THE $25,000 AS RECOMMENDED
CARRIED BY THE FOLLOWING ROLL CALL VOTE
A YES: COUNCIL MEMBERS BUCHAN, CLAIRE, LA BERGE, AND RUSKIN
NOES: COUNCILMAN LEIPZIG AND MAYOR HARTNETT
MINUTE ORDER NO. 97-103
MIS: RUSKINIBUCHAN TO ALLOCATE THE REMAINING $10,580 TO SHELTER
NETWORK
REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING MINUTE BOOK NO. 55 MAY 19, 1997
MINUTES Page No. 342 PAGE 14
