working, and what isn't working. So the things that are not working can be put by the
wayside to find those that will."
Mayor Pro Tern Howard said, "I agree with Councilwoman Buchan's comments. I think
more information is healthy. I don't think you can ever have too much information out
there to the public, because we are trying to encourage people to become more involved.
If we can't reach them one way, then we must try other ways. I am in favor of having
more of this newsletter at City Council meetings, at the end table, to take as you go out. In
case you feel you haven't received it, or you may have thrown it out and maybe something
just struck you and you want to read it again, I think it would be nice to have that. I think
the 'man or woman on the street' idea was a wonderful idea, asking questions and printing
responses. Not our responses, not the City's responses, but the people on the street, what
their responses are. I look at this as a real advantage in communicating with people and I
am very much in support of the hard work that the subcommittee has already put into this.
We appreciate it and to Mr. Preimesberger, also."
CARRIED BY THE FOLLOWING ROLL CALL VOTE:
A YES: BUCHAN, LA BERGE, RUSKIN AND MAYOR PRO TEM HOWARD
NOES: COUNCILMAN LEIPZIG
ABSENT: COUNCILMAN CLAIRE AND MAYOR HARTNETT
MINUTE ORDER NO. 97-124
Mr. Chris Preimesberger, 3719 Page Street, Redwood City, said, "Before we put
together an issue of the Connection, the Editorial Committee of the City Council, and City
Manager Everett, and Executive Assistant Pat Valentine meet, and we choose in advance
the story ideas that we are going to pursue. We do not rewrite other publications. It has
not happened one time. The stories are originated in our committee and carried out by
myself. I just wanted to clarify that."
Councilman Leipzig said, "Thank you, I appreciate that. I didn't mean to imply that the
stories were rehashed, or stolen from the other publications. They are the same articles
that have appeared in other newspapers. That was my point."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6.
