. I . , . -,
- Mayor Hartnett said with respect to immediate landscaping in the Woodside
Road to Vera Avenue, "I am assuming that as long as that is not something
that fundamentally changes the character of the area and would make it
incompatible with what might happen long term, that Council would like that
to proceed apace. But I am also assuming that that is going to come back to
us before that happens, so that we will have an opportunity to take a look and
say yea or nay. The design will come back to us. Thirdly, before major
efforts in terms of landscaping, beautification beyond what I have already
mentioned, goes forward along the balance ofEI Camino, we'd like to see the
context in which that might happen in terms of a long range plan."
Council Members agreed.
MEMO 6/24/97
Mayor Hartnett said the Council is planning to have a joint meeting with the
Planning Commission Members in the near future, and that would be the time
to discuss this issue with them.
Vice Mayor Howard suggested that a member of the Architectural Advisory
Committee be included in discussions.
MEMO 6/24/97
- 3) Public comment;
No one wished to speak.
4) Further Council discussions;
In response to Councilman Ruskin's questions regarding plans for the City's
problems with flooding and the Oakwood Robles area, Director Nelson said
the Bayfront Canal is a big issue, and it will have to be a joint project
between a number of jurisdictions. She said there is currently no large capital
money fund in the storm drain system infrastructure (program), but small
improvements are done. "To do redo that neighborhood would cost many
millions of dollars. We are continuing to work with them. We did the chip
seal, and the interest of the neighborhood has moved more towards traffic
calming. The flooding issue is still out there and we will continue to work
with that neighborhood probably towards a less costly solution than a whole
reconstruction of their streets. It will be a future funding decision that you
will have to make. We have also let them know that because there is not a
way to fund the entire project, that it would need some financial participation
by the people who live there, and that has not gone over well."
-
ADJOURNED REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING MINUTE BOOK NO. 55 JUNE23,1997
MINUTES Page No. 425 PAGE 23
