I I I I II

--- Mayor Hartnett said in reference to the $10,000 for the Emergency Hunger
Fund, it was his recollection that Councilman Claire's May 19, 1997 motion
granted $10,000 right away, "and there could be an additional request at a later
time that we would consider. At that time it could be $10,000 or some other
figure. That second amount of money is not fixed and is subject to a later
request. With respect to the difference between the revenue and expenditures of
the sewer enterprise fund, I know we have an aggressive capital improvement
program of a couple of million dollars plus a year."
City Manager Everett recapped the policy objectives established by an earlier
Council led by former Mayor Jack Greenalch, to provide at least $2 million in
capital improvements per year, and to reach a goal of $2 million in reserves for
emergency expenditures in each of the water and sewer enterprise funds. He
added that this was the last year of that second program.
Councilwoman La Berge said that one of the other considerations for the large
amount of money in the enterprise funds, is that in the very near future,
Redwood City's water supplier, San Francisco Water, would be embarking on a
very expensive replacement and maintenance program, and all their customers
would be assessed higher rates. "We are planning to make the hit on our
'-- community much softer by having this little cushion."
In reference to the Council budget, City Manager Everett advised that
expenditures include salary and benefits, conferences and seminars; and City
Clerk Jorgenson advised that all City plaques, proclamations, awards,
receptions, dinners, plus office expenses, etc. were also charged to the Council
account, including the Pride and Beautification awards and reception this
evening. City Manager Everett advised he would provide a list of Council
account expenditures.
MEMO 7/15/97
4) Close public hearing;
MIS: HOWARD/CLAIRE TO CLOSE mE PUBLIC HEARING
CARRIED BY UNANIMOUS VOICE VOTE AND HEARING WAS CLOSED AT
8:34 p.m.
5) Council action:
INTRODUCTION OF ORDINANCE
--
REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING MINUTE BOOK NO. 55 JULY 14, 1997
MINUTES Page No. 447 PAGE 10
