MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST - Taken out of order at this time.
A. Report from Bair Island Task Force, Councilwoman La Berge, Chairperson, supporting
Bair Island Frontage Road Access (205.)
Councilwoman La Berge, Chair of the Bair Island Task Force, presented the Task
Force's report in support of a frontage road access. She said the action before the Council
is "to request that you support a resolution that would officially request the San Mateo
Transportation Authority include in their planning of auxiliary lanes for the 101 corridor, a
connector road between Whipple A venue and Skyway Road. The Transportation
Authority is very interested in the whole 101 corridor, and because they are in the process
of developing plans right now, they have expressed interest in including a connector road,
if they get a formal request from the City of Redwood City and the San Carlos City
Council." Councilwoman La Berge advised that the San Carlos City Council is
considering such a resolution at its meeting tonight.
Councilman Leipzig said the Report referred to the Bair Island frontage road access but
the Resolution did not. He asked that the term Bair Island be eliminated from documents
referring to the proposed resolution because it might cause problems for some people.
Councilwoman La Berge said she agreed.
In response to Councilman Leipzig's questions regarding the existence of a "CalTrans
right-of-way that extends from the shoulder of 101 fairly far into what we call Bair Island,
South Shores," Councilwoman La Berge said she believed that was correct, and said
Senior Engineer Vorametsanti is currently researching the subject of rights-of way in that
area.
REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING MINUTE BOOK NO. 55 JULY28,1997
MINUTES Page No. 486 PAGE 12
