- - - -
Senior Engineer Vorametsanti said, "This resolution does not address any particular
'- alternative that has been studied so far. This issue has been around for a long time, and
many alternatives have been proposed by many parties. At this point in time we are just
looking for the right-of-way and we are not endorsing... any alternatives.... I am doing
the research right now on the right-of-way and we will try to address that and present that
information to you." In response to Councilman Leipzig's questions, Engineer
Vorametsanti said, CalTrans "may have a sufficient right-of-way for a certain portion of
the proposed alternative, but I don't think they have enough for the entire length of the
road (closer to the San Carlos border)... We mayor may not have enough because of the
proposed auxiliary lane that will go parallel to the freeway also."
Councilwoman La Berge said it looked encouraging. "It seems to us that there is a
possibility for a narrow roadway that would not infringe much upon the property that will
be transferred to POST. "
MIS: LEIPZIGIHOW ARD. Vice Mayor Howard reported that last week there was a public hearing at the Port chaired
by Assemblyman Lempert, member of the Select Committee on Coastal Protection. She
described the efforts of the Aqua Terra Task Force composed of federal and state
agencies, San Mateo County, County Sheriff's department, Redwood City Police
Department and Fire Department and the Pride and Beautification Committee. Vice
Mayor Howard said the Task Force has addressed the issues of abandoned boats in
Redwood City waterways and sluices since 1994. She said to date there have been 30
abandoned boats removed through the efforts of the Task Force, volunteer help and
contributions from businesses and the community.
Vice Mayor Howard said there was money in the Committee on Coastal Protection
budget to help cities like Redwood City to clean up abandoned craft. She said the public
hearing was very fruitful, and was attended by people from San Diego to Sausalito who
told of similar problems. She said however, that Redwood City was unique in its
solutions. Vice Mayor Howard said Redwood City is the model that other cities are
following. She said Assemblyman Lempert is interested in helping Redwood City
complete Phase I in removing abandoned vessels. She said she believed the City would
receive financial support from the state.
'-
REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING MINUTE BOOK NO. 55 JULY 28,1997
MINUTES Page No. 487 PAGE 13
