She described how she and Art Balsamo remembered the first Council meeting in
the Board of Supervisors Chamber in 1959, and now they were attending the first
meeting in Redwood City's own Council Chamber. Mrs. Spangler congratulated the
Council on constructing such a great facility, and said "I'm glad you spent our money
on this building!" She said it was not ostentatious at all, and would be a great place for
all kinds of civic activity. Mrs. Spangler asked that Council keep the Chamber and
meeting rooms busy with informational meetings, "with people learning about Redwood
City, participating in Redwood City government, telling you what they think, and
patting you on the back when you need it."
REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING MINUTE BOOK NO. 55 AUGUST25,1997
MINUTES Page No. 500 PAGE 2
