The corrected agreement
and resolution being prepared by the City Attorney now show the final figures of
$41,700 as the bond amount, and $23,150 for the plan check fee.
MIS: HOW ARD/BUCHAN. This item removed from the Consent Calendar for consideration at this time.
-- Execution of agreements for the Human Services Financial Assistance Program: (304)
REPORT: Parks, Recreation and Community Services Manager Magda Gonzalez,
August 25,1997
Vice Mayor Howard described the Human Services Financial Assistance Program and
said that Redwood City is the only city in the Bay Area that allocates over $200,000 to
human service non-profit agencies in its own community. These agencies provide
services that city governments couldn't possibly provide. Vice Mayor Howard described
how the Housing and Human Concerns Committee considers applications and makes
recommendations to the Council. She said the money given to those agencies provides
services to Redwood City residents in areas such as child care, crisis intervention and
senior services, and the money is well spent in our community.
Councilman Claire said approximately two years ago the editorial staff of the Redwood
City Tribune gave Foster City a great deal of credit for allocating $19,000 to agencies in
Foster City. He said the Tribune had been advised that the citizens of Redwood City had
consistently supported the City's large allocations to non-profits for as long as he could
remember, through liberal and conservative Councils. Councilman Claire said these
funds come from the general fund, and are not reimbursed grants. He agreed with Vice
Mayor Howard and said he hoped the Tribune would give the citizens and Councils of
-- Redwood City the same compliments it gave Foster City.
REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING MINUTE BOOK NO. 55 AUGUST 25, 1997
MINUTES Page No. 507 PAGE 9
