Civic Cultural Commission request for additional funds; (209) <br /> REPORT: Civic Cultural Commission letter to Mayor Hartnett, August 22, 1997; <br /> Civic Cultural Commission Chairwoman Virginia Ball advised that October had been <br /> declared National Arts and Humanities month. She said "You have already inspired our <br /> community with your support to the arts. The Council's objective has been to bring <br /> cultural activities back into the schools. We have funded $24,600 to the schools." <br /> Chairwoman Ball described the benefits of the arts programs to children, parents, <br /> grandparents and the community. "We had the Kollage Community program, the Redwood <br /> City Education Foundation, and the El Camino Youth Symphony working in separate <br /> directions as individuals." Chairwoman Ball said the Civic Cultural Commission got them <br /> together and asked them to work together, which they did. The additional funding to that <br /> group, and the support of the Council and the CCC allowed Barbara Pierce of the Redwood <br /> City Education Foundation to obtain $100,000 additional funding for two-years. <br /> Chairwoman Ball, listed the other expenditures the CCC approved, including $30,000 to <br /> PCS productions at the Fox Theatre, bringing many patrons to the downtown area. She <br /> said in keeping with the Council's economic development picture, the CCC began the "Tis <br /> the Season" festival last year.
