Offered by Councilm�n Granger �rho moved adoption, <br /> seconded by Councilman Royer and carried on roll call, Councilma.n Jones noted absent. <br /> � <br /> VERIFIED CLAIM FROM THE CALIFORNIA AUTO ASSOCIATION for alleged damages to automobile of one <br /> Jack Lipovac amounting to �49•75• Councilman Britschgi moved denigl and reference t o <br /> � <br /> Insurance carrier, seconded by Councilman Spi].lers, and carried. Councilman Royer adviaed <br /> the Insurance Committee had held a raseting with representatives of the Insurance Company <br /> and would bring in a recommendat3on in two weeks . Placed on June 21st agenda. <br /> � DIVISION OF HIGHWAYSf APPROVAL OF INDIISTRIAL WAY PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS. The porposed pro- <br /> �""' ject, known as Gas Tax Pro�ect No. 52, consists of grading and paving with 3 inches of <br /> plant-mixed surfacing on 6 inches of crusher run base on 12 inches of select sub-base for <br /> a width of 60 feet within newly constructied curbs. Estimated cost is �140,910. to be <br /> financed �ointly from Gas Tax allocation for major City streets in t he amount of �30,000 <br /> and from City funds in the amount of �110,910. The Dep artment sug�ests that the City <br /> review the estimate and determine whether or not it is in line with current price trends <br /> before advertising for bids. City Engineer Jain stated that the City of San Carlos <br /> expected Redwood City to reimburse them for one quarter of the cost of constructing <br /> bridge. The 1et�er from the State did not m�ntion the bridge, however, it is possible <br /> this item mi�.t be paid out of Gas Tax Funds. City Attorn�y Gurrie will pro ceed with <br /> condemnation proceedings as rapidly as possible. Councilman Britschgi questioned the <br /> *-� wisdom. of building sidewalks throug�i the industrial area. Councilma.n Granger moved that <br /> �� City Attorney Currie proceed With th e necessary steps to institute assessment proceedings. <br /> Motion seconded by Councilman Stout and carried. <br /> SAFE AND SANE FIREfNORKS PERI�ITS for Raso Fine Foods, Peninsula Celebration Assoeiation and <br /> Pecks A�arket was recommended by Cire Chief Lodi. Recommendation was approved by Counci7.- <br /> man Royer, seconded by CoUncilman Stout and carrie d. <br /> DIRECTIONAL SIGN AT BAYSHORE HIGHWAY AND WHIPPLE AVENUE. &ir. L. M. Reen appeared to protest <br /> a sign recently erected reading as follows: <br /> nScenic Route via El Camino Real , right turn 900� , Redwood City, Restaurants-Motels". <br /> It developed that the sign was approved by the Planning Commission and use permit regu- <br /> � larly iasued. Protestants claimed that the sign was obtained under false pretenses ar�d <br /> was unfair to several merchants, restaurants and motels located south of Whipple Avenue. <br /> The petition was submitted bearing names of 16 m�rchants. After discussion, Councilman <br /> � <br /> Stout moved that the matter be referred back to tYie Planning Commission for whatever <br /> � <br /> action they may care to take in view of the claim of misrepresentation, seconded by <br /> Councilman Spillers and carried. <br /> RESTAURANT APPLICATIONS. Applications of Adobe Gardens, 4�3 El Camino Real and Jiffy Burger, <br /> � 1900 El Camino Real were approned on motion of Counc ilma.n Roy�er, seconded by Councilman <br /> �"' Stout, and carried. The applications were cleared b y the usual departme nt heads. <br /> Councilman Granger again discussed the problem of restaurants and liquor licenses and <br /> suggested that the City Attorney bring in a recommendation as to a method of control. It <br /> was stated that the issuance of a liquor license in every case was subject to a use per- <br /> mit from the Planning Commission. <br /> RESOLUTION No. 1703 AUTHORIZING REMOVAL OF RACIAL RESTRICTIONS ON LOTS 25 and 26, West Redwood <br />
