Couricilman Stout reported that another meeting would be held on August 31st at 8:00 P.M. in the City It4anager' s office at which representatives of tYie local service clubs would be invited. Report will be made subsequent to that da.te. COUNCILMAN GRANGER discussed STATUS OF TREES ON EZ CAMINO REAL. In an effort to beautif�t city entrances, Councilrrian Granger suggested that the Council confer with the Chamber of Commerce to carry out plan in the Master Plan and included in the 1944 City Plan. Possibility of """* planting redwood trees at both the north and south entrances was discussed. Councilman „�,,; Granger then moved that the subject be referred to the Park and Recreation Com¢nission, seconded by Councilman Jones and carried. Councilma.n Jones suggested that the plan be car- ried out further and �larshall Street be developed at the rear of t he Courthouse. � PROGRESS ESTIMATE N0. l. Payment was recommended by City Engineer Jain� Councilm.an Jones moved approval, seconded by Councilman Stout and carried. RECREATION COMMISSION RECOMN�NDATION RE: STANFORD BOAT HOUSE. The Commission recorrnn.ends that the boat house be erected on the easterly side of the Uacht Harbor building running toward the west side. It appears that the area has been staked off locating t he building on the west side. The Corrnnission has also recommended a ten year lease. City Engineer Jain stated his department had staked the site requested by Councilman Britschgi. Councilman Stout reported that a meeting had been held and the members of the Rec'reation Commission had been i�vited, but none could attend. The description furnished City Attorney Currie had been approved by the Port Commission. Councilman Stout moved that the matter be re- ferred back to the Council Yacht Harbor Committee, however, in the interest of savin� � time, it was decided decision should be made at once. Mr. Arthur �. Ayrault, Jr. , Captain of the Sta.nford Crew appeared before the Council and stated that some 900 yards '"'� of fill had been dumped at the west side, and it �rould be a costly operation to move this fill. He also requested permit to have a septic tank installe d. The site where the fill was dumped was the one approved by the Port Commission who were of' the opinion that the building, if erected on the east side would interfere with a contemplated spur track. Council.man Jones moved that a variance be granted to Rowing Crew granting permission to construct septic tank as requssted, sub�ect to the approval of the Health and Building Departments. Motion seconded by Councilman Stout. City Engineer Jain sugges�ed that connection to sewer, if and when available, should be a condition of the permit. Motion carried. Councilman Stout thoug�t the Recreation Commission should be consulted, however, inasmuch as the Port Commission had the power to decide the location, Councilman Jones moved approval of the area as staked out, seconded by Councilman Granger, the Recreation �* Commission to be so informed. Motion carried. Councilman Granger then moved that the w,.,�, Recreation Commission recommendation re�arding the ten year lease be approved, seconded by Councilman Stout and carried.
