5. SPECIAL ORDER(S) OF THE DAY <br /> A. Recognition of Jeff Ira, Departing former Mayor and Council Member <br /> Mayor Aguirre gave the introduction and opening remarks. She also thanked all the <br /> community leaders present tonight and dignitaries who came to pay homage to termed <br /> out Council Member Jeff Ira. <br /> Steve Elliott, on behalf of Stanford University, gave his presentation to former Mayors <br /> and current Council Members Jeff Ira and Rosanne Foust to recognize their work with <br /> them on this project over the years. They presented a $1 million dollar check <br /> representing the contributions Stanford University is making to a variety of efforts in <br /> Redwood City. <br /> Dr. Bell, City Manager, gave his remarks and presentation on behalf of the Department <br /> Heads and appointees. He presented outgoing Council Member Ira with a token of <br /> appreciation. <br /> Senator Jerry Hill spoke about Council Member Ira's legacy in Redwood City. He <br /> presented a resolution to Council Member Ira recognizing his contributions. <br /> Kevin Fong, representing Senator Yee, spoke in support of Council Member Ira for his <br /> 16 years of service and presented a resolution to him. <br /> Bob Grassilli, San Carlos City Council Member, spoke to Council Member Ira's <br /> character and said it was an honor serving with him and he appreciates him as a friend. <br /> Wayne Lee, representing the City of Millbrae, spoke about the difficulty of being an <br /> elected official and recognized Council Member Ira's efforts and contributions. <br /> Warren Lieberman, a member of the Belmont City Council, spoke about Council <br /> Member Ira's contributions to the success of the wastewater treatment facility and the <br /> community in general. <br /> Ira Ruskin, former Assemblymenber, Mayor and former City Council Member of <br /> Redwood City, spoke about Council Member Ira's leadership, contributions to the City, <br /> and his introduction of the fiscal reserve. <br /> Jim Hartnett, former Mayor and former City Council Member of Redwood City, spoke <br /> about Council Member Ira's election and his ability to work with people to reach <br /> common ground. <br /> Stacey Wagner, Vice Chair of the Board of the Redwood City San Mateo County <br /> Chamber of Commerce, presented Council Member Ira with a plaque on behalf of the <br /> Chamber of Commerce for his sixteen years of service. <br /> Ernie Schmidt, Planning Commission Chair, thanked Council Member Ira for aiding the <br /> Planning Commission when they had questions.
