Janet Borgens, Planning Commissioner, spoke about Council Member Ira's
contributions in inspiring and guiding the Planning Commission and other Boards,
Committees and Commissions. She appreciated his time and patience in listening and
respecting her opinions.
Mayor Aguirre read two letters from people who were not able to attend the meeting the
letters were from Diane Howard, former Mayor of Redwood City and Harold Draeger,
Vice Chair of the Senior Affairs Commission. On behalf of the City Council, she
expressed their appreciation and how they are honored to present Council Member Ira
with their proclamation and gifts to him and show a slide show in honor of his sixteen
years of service.
Each Council Members spoke about Council Member Ira's service, partnership, support
and outstanding character.
Council Member Ira thanked his family and friends for their support. He presented gifts
to each Council Member. He gave Dr. Bell, City Manager, some "words of wisdom"
presenting the City Manager with an oar — as a token of his appreciation to the good
work the City Manager has accomplished.
6. PUBLIC COMMENT
James Lee Han, Secretary and representative for Save Pete's Harbor, made an
announcement about the Peninsula Stonewall Democrats and the Transgender Day of
Remembrance. He spoke about the most recent two community outreach meetings on
Pete's Harbor and thanked staff for the advanced notice about the meetings. He stated
the proposed development does not mitigate for the loss of 50 years worth of public
access and opined that the community would have been better served had there been a
preservation of the historic restaurant. He requested that everyone who is concerned
about Pete's Harbor to come to the Town Hall on Wednesday. He stated that he is not
opposed to development outright but the development as proposed is not appropriate.
He stated that Redwood City could retain the access at Pete's Harbor as well as remain
a destination point that would bring in revenue but this would be lost under the current
development. He stated that the maximum allowed density is 40 dwelling units per acre
which is the same as residential high density, which does not conform to the General
Plan in mitigating for sea level rise, etc. He opined that Pete's Harbor should be given
as much consideration as the Inner Harbor plan.
7.
