Report from the Council Ad Hoc Committee on Boards, Committees and Commissions <br /> recommending changes in tenus, recruitments and certain technical support to increase <br /> citywide participation in Council appointed Boards, Committees and Commissions. <br /> (excluding the Library Board, Planning Commission and Port Commission which were <br /> established by and governed by the Redwood City Charter.) (Committee Members Buchan <br /> and Howard) <br /> REPORT; Council Ad Hoc committee on Boards, Committees and Commissions, <br /> December 16,1996 <br /> Using overheads, Councilwoman Buchan presented the Committee's recommendations: <br /> Recommendations from Ad Hoc committee on Boards, Committees and Commissions - <br /> Vice Mayor Diane Howard, Councilwoman Judy Buchan and staff support by City Clerk <br /> Arlyn Jorgenson. <br /> The Task: Review current recruitment and appointment procedures, and recommend <br /> new ways to promote membership. <br /> Vice Mayor Howard presented the results of a survey conducted by the City Clerk <br /> Department describing recruitment, interview and appointment procedures in other <br /> cities around the Bay. <br /> Precluded by the Redwood City Charter: Planning Commission, Board of Port <br /> Commissioners and the Library Board. <br /> Adopted from the San Mateo Model: Honors Redwood City traditions, more inclusive, <br /> friendlier, and consistent recruitments, interviews and appointments. <br /> All terms - four years: Begin June I, end May 31 of even numbered years, and all current <br /> tenus lengthened, not shortened. <br /> Interview Sessions: At least two Interview Sessions in early April of even numbered <br /> years, not on a Monday night, individual interviews, and members of boards, committees <br /> and commissions encouraged to attend and provide feedback to Council. <br /> REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING MINUTE BOK NO. 55 DECEMBER 16, 1996 <br /> MINUTES Page No. 080 PAGE 6 <br />
