Requires agenda, posting, minutes and <br /> other Brown Act requirements. <br /> Alternative B: Two or three Council members meet with individual applicants for <br /> specific group in a more casual setting. Council members appointed by Mayor to <br /> each Interview Session; nonbinding recommendations to entire Council. No Brown <br /> Act requirements, but Sessions would be posted for public awareness. <br /> It's Happening in May: Appointments announced at a special meeting in May. Appoint <br /> an "alternate" with full voting rights from applicants to serve in place of absent member. <br /> It's Happening in May: Orientation/Reception held the same week of the appointments: <br /> . Mayor will administer oath of office to new members; <br /> . Staff liaisons will describe duties and responsibilities of the group; <br /> . City Attorney and City Clerk will provide infonnation on parliamentary <br /> procedures and Brown Act; and <br /> . Nonappointees will be encouraged to attend. <br /> Recruitments: Conducted by the City Clerk Department beginning in March. Applicants <br /> need to become familiar with Council policies and group issues. Applicants will be <br /> - encouraged to attend at least two Council meetings and two meetings of the group to which <br /> they are applying, during the previous six months. Applicants are encouraged to limit <br /> submittals to only two applications per recruitment period and indicate their preference. <br /> Applications: Applications will be reviewed to eliminate duplicate questions; current <br /> supplemental questions will be reviewed and made more concise; and optional questions <br /> will be deleted. <br /> Objectives: Boards, Commissions, Committees Integral Part of city government; everyone <br /> to feel part of the process, create inclusive, citywide, supportive atmosphere; boards, <br /> commission, committees feel more connected to Council; and Orientation gives basic tools <br /> needed to step into role on selected board, commission or committee. <br /> Getting the Word Out: City Newsletter, City Web site, water bills, local media, boards, <br /> committees and commissions, Neighborhood Associations, and eventually, filing <br /> applications Online.
