<br /> Tony Doolin, 583 Topaz, Redwood City, asked Council not to support the proposal, <br /> stating it would constitute interference in the affairs of another governmental entity which <br /> should be an independent agency. Mr. Doolin stated he believed in the separation of <br /> responsibility, and the less government involvement the better the schools were and will <br /> be. <br /> John Casterman, 401 Arlington Road, Redwood City, stated the proposal was a bold step <br /> for Redwood City children, and described the positive actions the parents groups had taken <br /> at Clifford School. <br /> Johu Wade, President of the Redwood City School Board, 711 W. California Way, <br /> Redwood City, stated the proposed partnership was not interference in school business, but <br /> a critical step in improving Redwood City schools. <br /> Mayor Hartnett asked if anyone else wished to speak and no one came forward. <br /> Redwood City Library Director Light described the proposed partnership as consistent <br /> with the Library's Mission Statement which highlights the Library's commitment to meet <br /> the changing needs of the community. Director Light described how libraries influence <br /> independent learning and urged Council to support the proposal for a LibrarylMedia <br /> Specialist at Redwood City Schools and Libraries. <br /> TITLE READ. MIS: CLAIRE/BUCHAN <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 12686 ENDORSING AND SUPPORTING REDWOOD CITY SCHOOL <br /> DISTRICT LIBRARYIMEDIA CENTER PROGRAM AND DECLARING INTENT TO <br /> PROVIDE CERTAIN FUNDING IN CONNECTION THEREWITH; <br /> Councilman Ruskin read a letter ITom Ken Hill, County Board of Education, supporting <br /> the proposal. <br /> In response to Councilman Leipzig's questions, Mayor Hartnett and School Board <br /> Trustee Bohl advised the $300,000 figure was established by the Chamber Education <br /> Committee, the program would be reviewed and assessed annually, and the City's <br /> commitment was for a limited time, three years.
