Mr. Holt stated there are better options for this
property and the proposed development was ill-conceived.
'--
Don Saye, 2021 Broadway, member of the Redwood City Civic Cultural Commission,
spoke in support of the project and the amphitheatre that has been proposed which could
be a permanent locale for local artists and Civic Cultural Commission sponsored
performances.
Marcy Schultz, 29 Pelican Lane, head of the San Mateo County Building Trades
Council representing approximately 10,000 construction workers. Ms. Schultz said she
studied the Pacific Shores Center project and found it well planned and community
responsive. She stated the compatibility and traffic concerns and the developer has done
a good job addressing those concerns and trying to find mitigation. She added that
money has been committed to auxiliary lanes on Highway 101 which will help mitigation
efforts. The Building Trades Council supports only projects if they are responsive to
community needs, aesthetically pleasing, environmentally sound, quality built, as well as
contribute to the economic viability of the City. Ms. Schultz said this project would offer
thousands of temporary local jobs and thousands of well paying permanent jobs, and
added that this development would keep Redwood City on the economic cutting edge.
Pete Hughes, 18 Admiralty Lane, long term resident and business owner, spoke in favor
of the proposed prezoning, stating there have been no good reasons put forward to vote
against it. Mr. Hughes urged Council to approve prezoning.
---
4.
