SUBJECT
- REDWOOD CITY 2000 PRESENTATION (304)
REPORT: Beth Ross, Coordinator, Redwood City 2000, March 18, 1996
Mayor Hartnett welcomed the Presidents and Trustees of the Sequoia High School District
and the Redwood City Elementary School District, Superintendents Fruehling and Dr. Crates,
and assembled guests and speakers to the historic and acclaimed Redwood City Library to
celebrate a historic occasion - the beginning of a partnership that will unite communities in
their efforts to improve the quality of life and provide maximum opportunities for healthy lives
to as many children as possible.
Mayor Hartnett presented a brief background summary of Redwood City 2000 and advised
that the Council would receive the comprehensive report and discuss the concept, but would
not necessarily have to take action by the end of this meeting.
President Scott described the presentation made to the Sequoia High School District Board
and the Board's discussions. She expressed the Board's concerns regarding justification for
funding this program given that Redwood City is only one of eight feeder elementary districts
included in the Sequoia District, and in the face of the Board's needs to make deep cuts in their
budget.
'-
MINUTE BOOK NO. %$
Special Joint Council Meeting Minutes Page No. 123
March 18, 1996
Page 2
