He said "It was far
beyond our wildest dreams that the Peninsula Partnership would have helped participate
in something like this happening in Redwood City 2000....And we are just one part of the
collaboration....It is my hope that we will have a chance to fund this project in the future
in a collective manner..... What will make the difference is the participation of all the
partners here tonight. That is what attracts the Board of Directors to fund it."
B. Vice President Hodge said it was critical to
have youth involved in the process, and added that they probably should have
membership on the Community Action Team.
D. David Stuart said he was the newest member of the Committee and that he had at first
opposed Redwood City 2000. After studying the process, he realized that there would be
local community action and decision making. Mr. Stuart said he really wanted to be
involved in the process to tie the community together around family, schools, government
and the marketplace. He said Mr. Gordon had stated it well, that "we want a true
community planning service....To make the community better...through local
participation, and we want to make a positive contribution to the City.
E. Marie Violet, Wellness Manager of Sequoia Hospital, said she was delighted to have
Sequoia Hospital become part of Redwood City 2000, and how important it was not to
duplicate services. "This particular effort will be real helpful to us in listening to the
voices of the community on the grass roots, real neighborhood level....There are limited
health care resources and education alike, and it is really important that we use those
resources to the maximum."
F. Pastor Dennis Logie, President of Redwood City Clergy Association with 49 churches,
member of the South County Coalition and Redwood City 2000, said he was glad to see
the breadth of representation and the level of representation in Redwood City 2000.
Pastor Logie said he was hopeful that this process would broaden community leadership
and eliminate duplication of services and redundancies.
