ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> A. Alvin Wang, Director of the Northern California Dragon Boat Races, distributed <br /> descriptive material on Dragon Boat Racing and invited everyone to attend the First <br /> Annual Northern California Dragon Boat Races on October 5 and 6, 1996 in Redwood <br /> Shores. He invited the Council to participate in the opening ceremony in October to <br /> "awaken the dragon." Mr. Wang reported that the World Championships will be held in <br /> Redwood City in the year 2000. In response to Mr. Wang's questions, Mayor Hartnett <br /> referred him to Police Chief Bolanos for the appropriate permits. (205) <br /> B. Joe Staudt, 2611 Broadway, speaking on behalf of the 2600 Broadway merchants, said he <br /> and his fellow merchants were losing business due to the actions of the contractor hired for <br /> the Broadway Sidewalk Improvement project. He said "No. Parking" signs were put up a <br /> week before any work had begun and he and City staff had to change the dates on the <br /> signs. Mr. Staudt described other projects in the Downtown that were begun and left <br /> '-- unfinished for long periods which negatively impacted the business in that area.
