<br /> MAYOR DANIELA GASPARINI MINUTES <br /> VICE MAYOR JIM HARTNETT <br /> CITY COUNCIL <br /> COUNCIL MEMBER JUDY BUCHAN 401 MARSHALL STREET <br /> COUNCIL MEMBER DIANE HOWARD REDWOOD CITY, CA <br /> COUNCIL MEMBER GEORGI LA BERGE <br /> COUNCIL MEMBER PAUL SANFILIPO <br /> COUNCIL MEMBER JANET STEINFELD SPECIAL MEETING <br /> JANUARY 30, 1995 <br /> CALL TO ORDER - 7:35 P.M., Mayor Gasparini presiding <br /> ROLL CALL <br /> Council Members present: Buchan, Hartnett, Howard, La Berge, Sanfilipo, Steinfeld, <br /> and Mayor Gasparini <br /> Council Members absent: None <br /> Staff present: Everett, Schricker, Jorgenson and Ingram, Nelson, Ponty, Patterson, <br /> Church, Luck, Passanisi, Jones-Thomas, Schnell <br /> PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE - Councilman Sanfilipo <br /> INVOCATION: Father Vern Jones, Episcopal Priest of the Diocese of California, gave the <br /> invocation and led the assemblage in a chorus of "America the Beautiful." <br /> ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> 1. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> A. Joe Steinfeld, 850 Main Street, Redwood City, referred to the earthquake in Kobe and the <br /> Council's rush to approve the Westport Project; criticized the Council's handling of the <br /> public hearing on the appeal of the Health Risk Assessment on Westport; and asked that <br /> the public hearing be reopened. Mr. Steinfeld stated that the Mayor and Vice Mayor were <br /> playing dual roles as Director of the Sequoia YMCA and President of the Chamber, <br /> respectively, and the Mayor, chief YMCA fund raiser, should excuse herself from <br /> participation, and the Vice Mayor should resign as Chamber President. Mr. Steinfeld <br /> added that the focus group meetings sponsored by the City and the Chamber were illegal <br /> when attended by a majority of the Council. <br /> B. Jen Holding, Sue Cortopassi, Jyoti Negi, and Nicole Sasson, members of the YMCA <br /> Youth and Government delegation, introduced themselves to the Council and described <br /> their participation in the Model Legislature and Court System program.
