Stnagel APRIL 13, 1992 Mayor La Berge announced that Councilmen Claire, Greenalch and Murray were unable to attend the meeting due to illness or being out of town. Councilman Stangel was attending another meeting and would join the Council shortly. In the meantime, Mayor La Berge advised that the items scheduled under Special Orders of the Day would be presented at this time. Vice Mayor Bury introduced his two granddaughters in attendance tonight: Katie Bury Allessandri from San Jose, and Elisabeth Bury Battin from the East Bay. Councilwoman Buchan presented a proclamation honoring the Week of the Young Child, April 5-11, 1992, and Worthy Wage Day, April 9, 1992 to Redwood City Child Care Coordinator Kristen Anderson, who brought many young people to the Meeting to thank the Council for their support. Mayor La Berge presented a proclamation in honor of the Redwood City Kiwanis Farmers Market to Norman Shapiro, who thanked the Council and the City Manager and his staff for all their assistance. Vice Mayor Bury presented a proclamation to Grady Burke, honoring his thirty years as a successful businessman in Redwood City and his extensive community involvement. Mr. Burke thanked the Council for this honor. Mayor La Berge announced that at this time the Council Members would report on their recent activities on behalf of the City. Councilwoman Buchan reported on the April 11th tree planting and clean-up at the Hoover School and Boys and Girls Club. Councilwoman Buchan advised this community event had the largest participation of all the Pride and Beautification Committee's clean-ups, with 100 children and adults pitching in to make Redwood City and their neighborhood a more beautiful place to live and go to school. Vice Mayor Bury described the Interservice Club Coordinating Council meeting on the 2nd Monday of every month at the Courthouse Cafe, and urged all service clubs to have their representatives present at this meeting to discuss upcoming events in Redwood City. Mayor La Berge advised that on April 10th in San Jose she attended the Children's Summit sponsored by the Governor's office and designed to discover how to overcome barriers to providing youth services. At the end of the conference the proposals and suggestions were forwarded to the Governor's office with the hope action will be taken to implement them.
