COMMUNICATIONS: A Christmas card was received from the neighbors in the 300 block of Oakwood Blvd* <br />thanking the Street Department for the wonderful job they did in patching up the street. <br />Councilman Spillers moved to elect Councilman Weymouth Mayor pro -tem during the absence of the Mayor., second- <br />ed by Councilman Herkner and carried. <br />Councilman Weymouth moved that the City Attorney be authorized to appear and defend the complaint received <br />by the Council, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried unanimously on roll call (referendum petition). <br />Councilman Spillers moved that the meeting be adjourned, seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried. Dodge,city Clerk <br />Minutes of the Regular Meeting <br />Redwood City Council <br />January 5, 1959, 8:00 P.M. <br />Invocation was led by Reverend Wilbur C. Westerdahl, Peninsula Covenant Church. <br />ON ROLL CALL the following were noted present: Councilmen Floyd D. Granger, Sidney D. Herkner, John S. <br />Rosselli, Louis Weiss, Ray Weymouth, Mayor William H. Royer and City Clerk R. S. Dodge. Councilman <br />Robert V. Spillers was noted absent. Also present were City Manager James E. Neal, City Attorney <br />Robert J. Costello, City Engineer Glenn M. Jain, Assistant Planning Director Leonard Knittel, Police <br />Chief William Faulstich, Water Superintendent H. L. Winter, Building Inspector S. 11. Kreiss and Deputy <br />City Clerk Vivian Holmquist. <br />Councilman Rosselli moved that the minutes of December 15th and December 22nd be approved as mailed, seconded <br />+ by Councilman Herkner and carried. <br />CONTINUATION OF PUBLIC HEARING ON THE ADOPTION OF AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING BY REFERENCE THE TEXT OF THAT PUBLIC- <br />ATION OF THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF BUILDING OFFICIALS, ENTITLED "UNIFORM BUILDING CODEs, 1958 <br />EDITION, VOLUME I", AND "UNIFORM BUILDING CODE, 1958 EDITION, VOLUME III,. UNIFORM BUILDING CODE STANDARDS <br />EXCEPT AS SUCH BUILDING CODE IS AMENDED BY SUCH ADOPTING ORDINANCE. The affidavit of publication was <br />ordered filed. There were no written communications, however, the Building Inspector reported on the <br />meeting held with the contractors and asked that Section 2802.1 be changed and clarified. Councilman <br />Rosselli moved that the public hearing be closed, seconded by Councilman Weymouth and carried. <br />Councilman Weiss moved to refer the matter to the City A ttorney and request that he make the necessary <br />correction so the ordinance may be introduced at the next meeting, seconded by Councilman Weymouth and <br />carried. <br />PUBLIC HEARING ON THE APPEAL OF CARMINE CASTAIDI TO THE RED900D CITY PLANNING COMMISSION DENIAL OF A VARIANCE <br />TO PERMIT CONSTRUCTION OF A SWIMMING POOL 81 FROM THE DWELLING INSTEAD OF THE REQUIRED 101 ON LOT 1 AND <br />THE NORTHEAST 10t OF LOT P, BLOCK 3, VILLA TRACT (1302 Norman Street - P.C. file #58-248). The Affidavit <br />of notice was ordered filed. After considerable discussion, both pro and con, Mr. Castaldi agreed to <br />an extension of time to a maximum of 60 days continuation of the public hearing. Councilman Weiss <br />moved that the public hearing be continued for 60 days with the consent of the applicant, March 2nd <br />seconded by Councilman Granger and carried. <br />Councilman Herkner moved adoption of ORDINANCE NO. 923 OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY APPROVING THE ANNEXATION <br />TO THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY OF CERTAIN UNINHABITED TERRITORY DESIGNATED "COONAN N0. 1" AND HEREIN <br />DESCRIBED, AND HEREIN ANNEXING SLID TERRITORY TO SAID CITY OF RED CD CITY, seconded by Councilman <br />Weymouth and carried on roll call, Councilman Spillers being noted absent. The affidavit of publication <br />was ordered filed. <br />
