PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE - Board of Port Commissioners Chairman Smith ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS In response to Mayor Buchan's comments regarding the city's role in privately sponsored events, Assistant City Attorney Sorba advised everyone that the City was not a sponsor nor participant of the past weekend's Sunflower Festival, and was only required to issue permits for street closures for these types of events. A. Susan Keely, Canyon Road, Redwood City, expressed her disappointment with the quality of arts and crafts at the Sunflower Festival. B. Joe Steinfeld, Main Street merchant, member of the Downtown Association which sponsored the Sunflower Festival, described the two-day festival as successful, and accomplished without City funding. C. Bruce Doran, Washington Street, Redwood City, stated the festival was great, but the downtown merchants should stop squabbling with each other and the City. MINUTE BOOK NO. 51 Page No. 530
