4/22/02 <br />O R I G I N A L <br />RESOLUTION NO. 14436 <br />RESOLUTION REPEALING RESOLUTION NO. 14394 AND <br />AMENDING THE CITY'S POLICY FOR EXTENDING THE CITY'S <br />SALARY AND BENEFITS CONTINUATION FOR CITY <br />EMPLOYEES ON ACTIVE MILITARY DUTY <br />WHEREAS, in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, attacks on the <br />United States, on October 8, 2001, the City Council passed Resolution No. <br />14394 to continue salary and health insurance coverage for the first 30 days of <br />military duty, and, for a period of up to six months, pay the difference between <br />regular earnings and those provided by the military, with full health coverage; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, employees of the City of Redwood City are members of such <br />military units and will soon exceed the six months extension of benefits; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council now wishes to repeal Resolution No. 14394 <br />and amend the City's military leave policy to provide salary and benefits <br />continuation for the duration of an employee's active military duty; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to both Federal and State law, employees of the <br />City of Redwood City who are members of either the Armed Forces of the United <br />States or the National Guard and are ordered to active military duty are entitled <br />to receive specified salary and benefits from their civilian employers for at least <br />thirty (30) calendar days; and <br />WHEREAS, the terrorist attacks and potential future incidents will <br />continue to cause unavoidable financial and emotional hardships for employees <br />of the City of Redwood City who are ordered to active military duty and their <br />families; and <br />F:Atty /Reso /Reso.1298 1 <br />041702 <br />
