339
Councilman Rosselli moved to introduce Ordinance appropriating the sum of $9,000
from Unappropriated Balance of Sewer Rental Fund for purpose of supplementing funds
heretofore appropriated for sanitary sewer maintenance, seconded by Councilman
Keckley and carried.
Consideration of applications for CATV licenses received from the following:
1. Hi Fidelity T. V. Cable System Co.
2. Peninsula Cable Television Corporation
Paul F. Kelly, attorney representing Hi Fidelity Cable
System Company, set forth details submitted in their
application as to their financial abaility and backing.
He stated franchise had been granted to this company by County
Board of Supervisors for areas outside and adjacent to City
and they would be immediately able to cover areas proposed in
their map, and asked their application be considered as
presented if decision to be made at this time.
Mayor Herkner questioned service being proposed for County and if it was to be
underground installation. Mr. Kelly advised underground servicing would be furnished
where utilities are underground, but where lines were above ground, these poles
would be used, as it would be economically not possible to do otherwise.
Councilman Rosselli further questioned costs of providing underground service and
costs to customers. Councilman Petersen felt it premature to consider making a
decision at this point and asked that Hi Fidelity T. V. Cable System Company be
allowed to present their brochure in form similar to that presented by other appli-
cant in order a more accurate comparison could be made.
Mr. Kelly agreed with Mr. Petersen's statements and assured
Council a brochure would be presented containing full facts
of their Company.
Council asked questions concerning type of service to be rendered, its value to
better reception by television users, and costs of service to customers.
Mr. Verne Laughton, representing Peninsula Cable Television
Corp. referred to their brochure describing their service
costs, area to be served and financial responsibility. Mr.
Laughton also described the public information channel which
would be of benefit to the City and described its possibilities
as to use.
After further discussion and questions concerning services proposed, Councilman
Petersen moved to table the applications until brochure received from Hi Fidelity
and report and investigation made by Staff, seconded by Councilman Keckley and
carried. (MINUTE ORDER #66-226)
Councilman Bury asked report from Staff indicate how this service would relate to
civil defense aspects, market potential, amount of units possible for installation,
etc. Councilman Henderson suggested Council members submit to the City Manager a
list of questions to which they desire answered, for transmittal to the applicants
----------------- ------------ ----------------------
--------------
Amendment to the Minutes of November 7, 1966 (Councilman Bury)' =1
Page -6- re Applications for CATV licenses. —
"Peninsula Cable Television Corporation agreed, on question t
by Councilman Bury, that if the Ordinance prohibited anything ient
except undergrounding, they would still be interested in going
forward with their project." in-
cilman Granger, if maker would consent to add to motion that, if County doesn't
