<br /> DES:dft r '09/94 (031/36) <br /> o RIG I N A L <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 12210 <br /> ---------- <br /> RESOLUTION DECLARING CITY PARKS, RECREATIONAL <br /> AREAS AND RELATED FACILITIES "DRUG FREE ZONES" <br /> WHEREAS, the presence of illegal drugs in every community of <br /> our nation constitutes a major societal problem; and <br /> WHEREAS, cohesive community efforts toward eliminating the <br /> trafficking in, and use of, illegal drugs are required to <br /> recapture the soul and repair the moral fabric of our <br /> communities; and <br /> WHEREAS, the introduction of drugs to children and youths by <br /> criminal elements is particularly reprehensible and pernicious <br /> conduct; and <br /> WHEREAS, the State legislature, in enacting offenses <br /> involving controlled substances (Penal Code §11350 et seq. ) , has <br /> provided for enhanced penalties for convictions involving drug <br /> trafficking with minors in or about park or recreational areas <br /> and youth centers; and <br /> WHEREAS, this Council desires to underscore the serious <br /> intent with which it seeks to eradicate use of illegal drugs in <br /> the City of Redwood City and to guard against attempts to entice <br /> children and youths into the drug sub-culture; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE; <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY AS <br /> FOLLOWS: <br /> l.
