RESOLUTION NO. 12116 <br /> DES:dft 1/4/94 (017/36) <br /> o RIG I N A L 1/10(94 <br />- <br /> RES 0 L UTI 0 N N O. 12116 <br /> ---------- <br /> RESOLUTION URGING SELECTION OF NASA AMES RESEARCH <br /> CENTER AS SITE FOR NEW WIND TUNNEL FACILITIES <br /> WHEREAS, the Ames Research Center of the National <br />Aeronautical and Space Administration ("NASA") is a long-standing <br />and internationally-renowned feature of the San Francisco Bay <br />Area's scientific community; and <br /> WHEREAS, Ames is home to the world's largest wind tunnel, <br />largest collection of wind tunnels and most advanced aerodynamic <br />computational facility, all of which complement one another; and <br /> WHEREAS, over the past half-century Ames and its wind <br />tunnels have played a vital role in the United States' space <br />exploration, national defense and industrial/commercial <br />technology; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Bay Area's high-technology industries, renowned <br />universities, large technical work force and other assets make <br />this area uniquely qualified to work with Ames to answer any <br />technological challenge; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Bay Area is suffering from economic stress from <br />defense base closures, social impacts and other events; and <br /> WHEREAS, the federal government is currently considering the <br />development of new, state-of-the-art wind tunnel facilities vital <br />to preserving and reinforcing the United States' leadership <br />position in aeronautical research; and <br /> WHEREAS, designing and locating the new wind tunnel <br />facilities at Ames would represent the most efficient and <br />economic application of scarce aeronautical research funds to <br /> .~._.~......_.,--. <br />
