Stangel <br />STUDY SESSION <br />CALL TO ORDER - 7:30 p.m. Vice Mayor LaBerge presiding. <br />M I N U T E S <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />STUDY SESSION <br />August 11, 1988 <br />Municipal Services Center <br />1400 Broadway <br />Conference Room <br />Councilmembers present: Buchan, Bury Claire, Murray, Stangel, and <br />Vice Mayor LaBerge <br />Councilmembers absent: Mayor Greenalch <br />Officials and staff present: Smith and Jean, Pawloski, Guardino, Hamilton and <br />Jorgenson <br />STUDY SESSION <br />Police Facility /Redevelopment of Marina Sub -Area (continued from 7/25/88) <br />Report: General Services Director 7/19/88 <br />City Manager Smith provided background information on the 3- member New Police <br />Facility Council Committee, cost of developing a new location at this point, and <br />previous Civic Center plans done in the 1960's and 1970's. <br />Robert Schiller and Jack Berry, project architects, H. Wendell Mounce AIA and <br />Associates, provided slides and charts describing the need for new facility, <br />cost, configuration and constraints of refurbishing current site and the need <br />for a costly parking structure at the site, benefits of the Zimmerman Field <br />location which has 110,000 square feet and is owned by the City, and a 20 -year <br />projection of police department personnel and space needs. <br />Ben Pawloski, Community Development Director, described available financing of the <br />$10.2 million needed for the new police facility, the $3.3 million previously <br />earmarked for City Hall refurbishing, and the remaining $6.9 from current and <br />future utility users receipts. <br />Nita Spangler, 970 Edgewood, asked for additional information from the architects <br />and the reasons to reject the refurbishing of the current police facility, why the <br />Study.Session <br />8/11/88 <br />MINUTE BOOK NO. 48 <br />Page No. 157 <br />
