<br />ORIGINAL <br /> <br />AGREEMENT BE~EEN THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE <br />LELAND STANFORD JUNIOR UNIVERSITY THROUGH ITS JOHN W. <br />GARDNER CENTER FOR YOUTH AND THEIR COMMUNITIES AT <br />STANFORD UNIVERSITY (THE "GARDNER CENTER"), THE <br />REDWOOD CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT, (THE "ELEMENTARY SCHOOL <br />DISTRICT") AND REDWOOD CITY 2020 THROUGH ITS FISCAL <br />AGENT THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY FOr. THE ACADEMY FOR <br />COMMUNITY SCHOOLS DEVELOPMENT <br /> <br />RECITALS <br /> <br />A. On or about June 27,2003, the Gardner Center executed an Agreement <br />of Cooperation (the "Cooperation Agreement") with Redwood City 2020, which allowed <br />the Gardner Center to become a partner in Redwood City 2020 and assist in providing <br />oversight to multiple collaborative programs designed to improve the health and quality <br />of life in Redwood City and to provide a forum for collaborative needs assessment and <br />community planning based on the National Civic League Healthy Communities Model. <br /> <br />B. <br /> <br />The Elementary School District is also a partner in Redwood City 2020. <br /> <br />C. The Elementary School District and Redwood City 2020 have expressed <br />an interest in converting a subset of its schools into "community schools" that combine <br />the rigorous academics of a quality school with a wide range of vital in-house services, <br />supports and opportunities to promote children's learning and development. <br /> <br />D. The Gardner Center has designed a process to support the Elementary <br />School District in this conversion. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, IN CONSIDERATION OF THE MUTUAL COVENANTS <br />AND CONDITIONS CONTAINED HEREIN, THE PARTIES AGREE AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />1) PURPOSE OF AGREEMENT <br />A) To agree on the vision and general scope of the work involving the Gardner <br />Center, the Elementary School District, and Redwood City 2020, and the <br />participating schools, Fair Oaks School, Hoover Scho~I, Kennedy Middle School, <br />and Taft School (the "Schools") as part of the Academy for Community Schools <br />Development (ACSD), an initiative originally outlined in the Cooperation <br />Agreement. <br />B) To describe the roles and responsibilities of primary representatives of each <br />Party in maintaining collaboration and communication on the agreed upon work <br />for ACSD. "Party" refers to the identified leadership team on behalf of the <br />Elementary School District, the Schools, Redwood City 2020, and the Gardner <br />Center staff. <br />C) To outline the various arrangements between the Gardner Center, the <br />Elementary School District and Redwood City 2020 that will support the <br /> <br />Atty/Agr/Agr.178 <br />042104 <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />..__....~ . <br />
