DES:dft 0/28/93 (004/36) 0 RIG I N A L 10/4/93 RES 0 L UTI 0 N N O. 12085 ---------- -- RESOLUTION REQUESTING BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF SAN MATEO TO ESTABLISH VEHICLE THEFT PROGRAM TO BE FUNDED BY VEHICLE REGISTRA- TION FEE WHEREAS, costs associated with vehicle thefts, nationally, exceed $10,000,000,000 per year, representing almost one half of all losses from property crimes; and WHEREAS, in the County of San Mateo, including the City of Redwood City, approximately three thousand vehicle thefts occur per year, costing some $21,000,000; and WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of Vehicle Code Section 9250.14, upon the adoption of a resolution by a County Board of Supervisors, a fee of one dollar ($1) shall be paid at the time of registration or renewal of vehicle registrations for vehicles registered to an address in the County, with certain exemptions; and WHEREAS, the fees collected upon registration shall be disbursed to the County to fund programs which enhance the capacity of local police and prosecutors to deter, investigate, and prosecute vehicle theft crimes; and WHEREAS, in order to reduce substantially vehicle theft losses, this Council desires to participate in an enhanced vehicle theft reduction' program to be funded through the imposition of registration fees pursuant to Vehicle Code Section 9250.14; NOW, THEREFORE; BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, AS FOLLOWS:
