<br />"..... <br /> <br />MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY"RECREATION & PARK ADVISORY COMMITTEE <br />- CITY HALL - <br />TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 1938, 7:30 P.M. <br /> <br />Present: <br /> <br />City Manager Charles L. Dimmitt, Chairman Wayne R. Mîll- <br />ington, Committee Members Mrs.- L. A. McAtee, James P. <br />Hagan, Andrew Spinas, K. W. Van Gundy, Donald Bogie and <br />Mîldred Hoenck, Recreation Directors Alfred Morton and <br />H. V. De Armond, Park Supt. Roger Walsh and Perry Byg- <br />dnes and Mr. Oleson representing the Lions Club, and Dr. <br />August Fromm representing the newly formed Yacht Club. <br /> <br />"'--" <br /> <br />Absent: <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br />Chairman Mîllington called the meeting to order and dir- <br />ected the reading of-the minutes of the previous meeting, which were <br />approved as amended. <br /> <br />Chairman Millington called upon. Perry Bygdnes to present <br />a proposal which had been discussed by the members of the Lions Club, <br />who feel that there is a-definite immediate need for a large play- <br />ground in Redwood City~ The Lions Club proposes that a large play- <br />ground site be" selected, possibly a piece of land taken over by the <br />City through defaülcation of bonds. The site suggested by the ~ions <br />Club is the piece of property between the_Bayshore Highway and Broad- <br />way and Chestnut and Walnut Streets. Their idea was to start in a <br />small way with possibly a baseball field or two and playground equip- <br />ment for the smaller children, and then over a period of years to <br />keep adding to the equipment and facilities so that in time there <br />would result a complete recreation center with all facilities, even <br />so far as a swimming pool. Some of the members of the Lions Club <br />were of the opinion that a pool should be provided immediately, and <br />Mr. Bygdnes presented a plan which the Lions Club would be willing <br />to sponsor to secure funds, which would be to sell subscription <br />tickets to citizens, for which they would be allowed the~use of <br />the pool a certain number of times. <br /> <br />Chairman- Millington asked to be excused at this time and <br />Vice-Chairman Hagan assumed the Chair. <br /> <br />Chairman Millington will appoint a committee to make a <br />study of available sites and cost of sites and then to appear-be- <br />¡fore the City Council with their findings. <br /> <br />"'-'"- <br /> <br />In closing Perry Bygdnes expressed the desire on the <br />part of the members of the Lions Club to cooperate with the Rec- <br />reation Department and to be of any possible assistance in the <br />development of recreational activities in Redwood City. <br /> <br />City Manager Dimmitt expressed gratification for the <br />interest shown by the Lions Club and stated that he felt their <br /> <br />. - <br /> <br />-- ------ -- - -- <br />
