<br />23 <br /> <br />REDWOOD CITY PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br />REGULAR MEETING, OCTOBER 7,1953 <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at 7:50 P. M. by Vice Chai~an . <br />Irving Gold - Chairman Stout arriving later to take over the <br />meeting. <br />'--.J <br /> <br /> <br />Roll call found ,the following present: Commissioners Catherine <br />Brennan, Elouise Campbell, Ralph Case, Wil1iRm Hanley, Irving <br />Gold, Superintendent of Parks Pasco Balzarini, Recreatiori <br />Director Alfred Morton and Supervisor of Athletics Joseph Marvin. <br /> <br />Minutes of the las~ meeting of September 2nd were approved. <br /> <br />PERSO1~AL APPEARANCES: ~Ærs. Irving Eskin, 27].1 Delaware Street, <br />who is on the Ci.vic Commi ttee of the Highlf'~rld,s Communi ty Club, <br />reported that their group was not in favor of leasing grourids <br />from. the schools to be used as ,playgrounds. They also fe 1 t <br />that they should have at least two acres more. . <br /> <br />Mr. Jerry Verssen, representing the Redwood Terrace Improvement <br />Club, appeared to obtain an up-to-date status on the Mass-Hå.Plpton- <br />Maddux Park. After a lengthly discussion with reference to this' <br />park si te a moti on \'as made J se cond.ed and rR-rried by the Commis s- <br />ioners Brennan and Go1à~ that s, letter be sent to the Ci ty Counei 1 <br />stating that the Co~.ission is keeping the Mass-Hampton~~addux <br />proposed playground site on it's agenda awaiting decision of their <br />final aetion.. <br /> <br />i <br />i <br />( <br />l <br />I <br /> <br />COMMUNICATIONS: A letter was read from the Westwood T~rrace <br />Improvement Club, suggesting that the Hetch Hetchy Freeway be <br />put to use as additional recreation area~ After a discussion <br />a moti on was mp~df1, se conded and carried. by Commis sioners Case <br />and Campbell that we table this matter until we work out our <br />19~55 budget, as e have no~ing ava11~le now for this project. <br /> <br />REPORT OF COi~~MIT'l'EES: Commissioner Gold reported that his <br />Recreation Committee was progressing nicely and would have a <br />report for the next meeting. <br /> <br /> <br />Commissioner ~Willie.m Hanley brought up the matter of the ~lemen- <br />tary School agreement on recreation facilities, stating that the <br />present agreement will not be workable if the city installs <br />equipment on school grounds. Chairman Stout asl<edRecreation <br />Director Alfred Morton if he would consult with the City Attorney <br />to see if an amendment could be added to the present ~greement. <br /> <br />The Cammi~sion discussed the suggestion from the City Council <br />with reference to installing lights at the baseball grounds at <br />Community Park. A motion wa~ made, seconded and carried by the <br />Commissioners Gold and Hanley that an adequate lighting system <br />for softball be considered. ~ Sec~tary was instrncted to send <br />a letter together with an estimate given by the General Electric <br />Company which was approximately $R,OOO.OO. <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />
