<br /> <br /> <br /> <br />=- ..::..;. :- ~, 1 . <br /> <br />MINUTES <br />REDWOOD CITY PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />January 9,1974 <br /> <br />The regular business meeting was called to order by Vice Chairman Frank Guida at <br />7:35 p.m. in the Lobby meeting room of the Community Activities Building. <br /> <br />MEMBERS PRES ENT : <br /> <br />Commissioners Guida, Haynes, Knecht, Pound, Rollins (arrived <br />7:40 p.m.), Schenck (arrived 10:14 p.m.) and Weintraub <br />(arrived 7:47 p.m.) <br /> <br />MEMBERS ABSENT: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: <br /> <br />Mr. Weeks, Director Parks & Recreation; Mr. Paulson, <br />Recreation Superintendent; and Mr. Balzarini, Parks <br />Superintendent <br /> <br />It was moved that the minutes of the December 12,1973, meeting be approved with <br />the following correction on page 2, paragraph 4, second sentence, "Mr. Knecht <br />agreed with this premise and also agreed that neighborhood parks of sufficient <br />size to fulfil¡ the full neighborhood needs should have first priority. However, <br />he felt that this did not necessarily mean abandonment of small play areas where <br />practical and where other larger park possibilities did not exist." Continue <br />on with "Mr. Guida said he feels that any time..." <br /> <br />Ayes: <br /> <br />Commissioners Guida, Haynes, Knecht and Pound. <br /> <br />Nays: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />CORRESPONDENCE <br /> <br />California & Pacific Southwest Park & Recreation Conference to be held in <br />Los Angeles February 15-19,1974. Commissioners Knecht, Haynes, Guida and <br />Pound are available to attend. <br /> <br />ITEM 1 - Diß~ussio~ of Eva!uatio~ R~orts of Su~er Pro~ram <br /> <br />Discussion was held with regard to the Evaluation Reports which were various <br />reports assembled by the Recreation Division relative to last summer's recreation <br />program. Mr. Weeks requested the Commission give their comments or suggestions <br />to the staff which they feel might be helpful. New program scheduling may be <br />affected by the energy crisis, but at this t~e there is no idea to what extent. <br />Bill Paulson discussed additional items such as (1) combining the Aquatics Pro- <br />gram with the YMCA and working out a year round family swim ticket, (2) capital <br />improvement consideration in the form of retaining the softball field at Hawes <br />Park as a multi~use field and relocating a softball field complex somewhere in <br />Redwood City, (3) offering more of a variety of sports such as tennis, swimming, <br />etc., in the Sports Camp Program this summer, and (4) combining the wilderness- <br />camp into a tri-city camp which would include Menlo Park and San Carlos. <br /> <br />Commissioner Rollins moved the reports be accepted as submitted, <br />seconded by Commissioner Haynes. <br /> <br />~ ...---- <br /> <br /> <br />- ~._-~ ~~. <br /> <br />" ~ <br />
