business meeting minutes, seconded by Commissioner Wilson. The
motion carried unanimously by voice vqte.

AGENDA ITEM 1. Di.sc.uss; on of Proposed State Fund;f!l Bi 11 s AB 997, Z I berR,
. and SB 174, Roberti

. ...... -.

Mr. Weeks exp 1 a i ned that, the purpose of thi s program (Ca 1 i forn i a Urban and
Local Government Recreation Program) is to provide an on-going state funding
program, which is consistent and predictable, for local government recreation
facilities and park lands.' '

Support for these bills was discussed, with the Cormni 5S i on. It was pointed out
that the California Park and Recreation Society has worked very hard in
sponsoring these bills and has gained good support for ,their adoption. In
that the funding for these bills would be derived from oil royalty monies
received by the State Lands Commission, it would seem the bills would be
quite acceptable" to the taxpayers. In light of the tight budget constraints,
which appear likely for capital improvement funds for the next few years, the
Commission felt that this source of State funding to continue with local
development would be most welcome. At the conclusion of the discussion, the
following motion was made.

MOTION:

It was moved by Commissioner Rollins, seconded by Commissioner
Schlesinger, that the Parks and Recreation Commission support
the bills AB 997 and SB 174 and recommend to the City Council
to endorse the bills and so notify the appropriate State
Committees reviewing the legislation. The motion carried
unanimously by voice vote.
