ITEM 1 - WELCOME AND INTRODUCTIONS Chairperson Swope welcomed the people attending tonight's meeting and introduced the staff members from the Park, Recreation and Community Services Department in attendance. ITEM 2 - PURPOSE OF MEETING Chairperson Swope explained that the idea of raising funds for the new Red Morton Center was proposed by the Park and Recreation Commission. This idea was brought before the City Council who agreed with the fundraising project. The fundraising effort will last approximately 12 months since the Center will be opening in about one year. Chairperson Swope felt it is critical to have community involvement in the project as it will give people a sense of ownership in the facility. She also does not want to burden City staff with the fund raising efforts due to budgetary cutbacks. Councilwoman Howard offered to put something about the fundraising efforts in the City Update newsletter if she can receive an article prior to the February 10 printing deadline. ---
