He announced Mayor Hartnett formed an
ad hoc committee to open the lines of communication between the City and
the many local youth sports groups. Both he and Commissioner Davis are
members of this committee. Supervisor Wooten said the committee has met
three times and he felt it is a very good committee. The committee has
enabled each group to realize the field needs of the other sports groups and
open the lines of communication between the groups.

The committee has recommended to the Mayor that any available land be
acquired for additional playing fields. Currently, there are not enough fields
to handle the field needs for sports groups throughout the City. The Pacific
Shores project, which was recently approved by the City, will not be open for
another 3 to 4 years. The plans were originally designed to include two Little
League fields, and the committee has recommended that the plans be changed
to include an official size soccer field and an official size baseball field since
that is the greatest need for the community.
