The minutes of the last meeting were approved as
submitted.

ITEM 1 - RED MORTON CENTER

It was decided in light of the July 6,1987 City Council decision not
to place the $8.8 million bond issue on the November ballot, it would
be prudent to hold off on a feasibility study for the renovation of
Red Morton Center.

ITEM 2 - JULY 4,1988 PARADE

Several Commissioners expressed their enjoyment at participating in
the parade this year. Commissioner Nordness said he would like to
see a contest within the department for entry ideas in next year's
parade. Director Griffiths said we could circulate a memo to that
effect and see what sort of response came back. Many Park and
Recreation employees are involved in the set-up of the parade as well
as working on parade day.

ITEM 3 - STULSAFT PARK PROJECT

Commissioners Nordness and Weiss expressed an interest in c1.eaning up
Stulsaft Park and making it more accessible to the general public.
Commissioner Nordness suggested canvassing the immediate
neighborhoods for ideas and reactions. Director Griffiths said in
1984, a similar idea was attempted and the residents on Recreation
Way were very opposed which is why the large gate at the bottom
entrance is still locked. It was suggested a questionnaire be sent
out to the residents of the area. Chairman Anderson also suggested
an article in the fall brochure regarding the exclusiveness of such a
beautiful park.
