The minutes of the last meeting were approved as <br />mailed. <br /> <br />ITEM 1 - GERRY DOHERTY (TRI-CITY PROGRAM) AND HOWARD KAPLAN <br /> <br />Assistant Center Supervisor Kaplan reviewed the success of the first <br />summer teen program and introduced Gerry Doherty of the Redwood City <br />Police Department explaining they had met at the Youth Symposium. <br /> <br />Community Services Officer Doherty discussed the evolution of the <br />Tri-city Drug Suppression program. She said the Police Chiefs of <br />Redwood City, Menlo Park and Atherton had all decided a consistent <br />drug education program in the schools was needed and that a <br />cooperative effort mav have the best results. A five year grant was <br />obtained through the State and the program is now in its fourth year. <br />Thirty-seven schools are involved and parents as well as students are <br />encouraged to participate. Gerry visits schools and discusses drug <br />dependence, peer pressure and is now working in conjunction with <br />Howard Kaplan to present al ternatives such as the recreati"on <br />programs. <br /> <br />Several Commissioners expressed concern that the program would soon <br />end after the grant expired. Ms. Doherty felt that the success of <br />the program would ensure its continuation. <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - STULSAFT PARK <br /> <br />Several residents of the neighborhood surrounding Stulsaft Park <br />attended the meeting. Their concerns revolved mostly around the <br />parking lot being opened up again and the problems associated with <br />that.
