PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2001 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Joseph, Commissioners Davis, La Berge, Morton (arrived 8: 15pm), Truscelli, and Walsh COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioner Swope GUESTS PRESENT: Rich Beiderman, Walter Moore, Vince Truscelli, Adriana Young, Chris Probasco STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Gary Hover, Secretary Denise Monroe, Manager Chris Beth, Assistant Recreation Center Supervisor Adilah Haqq-Smith The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to order by Chairperson Jeri Joseph at 7:34pm in Room 5 at the Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The January minutes were approved as mailed. CORRESPON DENCE The following correspondence was received: -A newsletter from the Santa Clara Valley Audibon Society ITE M 1 - SKATE BOARD PARK U PDA TE Assistant Recreation Center Supervisor Adilah Haqq-Smith gave the Commission an update on the progress of the skatepark development. She reported that lack Wormhoudt was selected as the best candidate from the consultant interviews. Mr. Wormhoudt had more experience in the field and has developed a large number of successful skateparks including ones in Truckee and Santa Cruz. Supervisor Haqq-Smith announced a public meeting was held on February 7 to develop a skateboard task force. Between 40 to 50 people attended the meeting and everyone was supportive of the concept. It was noted that none of the park neighbors attended the meeting and Supervisor Haqq-Smith will follow up with them. The next task force meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 6 at 7: OOpm at Red Morton Center. Projected cost of the new skateboard park is estimated at $250,000.
