<br />CGM : j p : 9/14/7 7 <br /> <br />0 R DIN AN C E <br /> <br />N O. <br /> <br />1 723 <br /> <br />ORIGINAL <br />OCT 10 1977 <br /> <br />--------- <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE REPEALING CHAPTER 8A AND ADDING <br />CHAPTER 8A TO THE CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD <br />CITY RELATING TO THE CONDUCT OF BINGO GAMES <br /> <br />THE COUNCIL OF REDWOOD CITY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />SECTION 1. <br /> <br />Chapter 8A of the Code of the City of Redwood <br /> <br />City is hereby repealed. <br /> <br />SECTION 2. <br /> <br />Chapter 8A is hereby added to the Code of <br /> <br />the City of Redwood City to read as follows: <br /> <br />"CHAPTER 8A <br /> <br />BINGO GAMES <br /> <br />Purpose and Intent. <br /> <br />It is the <br /> <br />"Section 8A.l <br /> <br />purpose and intent of the Council in adopting this <br /> <br />chapter, pursuant to Section 19 of Article IV of the <br /> <br />State Constitution, to enable non-profit organizations <br /> <br />organized and operated exclusively for religious, <br /> <br />charitable, scientific, literary, or educational pur- <br /> <br />poses, or for the prevention of cruelty to children <br /> <br />or animals, and to enable senior citizen organizations <br /> <br />to conduct bingo games. <br /> <br />Definitions. <br /> <br />For purposes of this <br /> <br />"Section 8A.2 <br /> <br />chapter, the following words shall have the meanings <br /> <br />respectively ascribed to them in this section: <br /> <br />" (a) <br /> <br />Bingo Game. 'Bingo game' means a game <br />of chance in which a prize or prizes <br />are awarded on the basis of a designated <br />alignment of numbers or symbols on a card <br />which conforms to numbers or symbols <br />selected at random. <br /> <br />" (b) <br /> <br />Non-profit Organization. 'Non-profit <br />organization' means those organizations <br />exempted from payment of the bank and <br />corporation tax by Section 23701(d) of <br />the California Revenue and Taxation Code, <br />to which a contribution or gift would <br />qualify as a 'charitable contribution' <br />under Section 170(c) (2) of the U.S. <br />Internal Revenue Code of 1954. <br /> <br />1 72 ;.( <br />
