<br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2005 <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Yapp, Commissioners Joseph, <br />Swope, and White <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Vice Chairperson Morton, Commissioners <br />Slusser and Truscelli <br /> <br />GUESTS PRESENT: Tom Passanisi and Gary Bonte of Planning Department. <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: Director Corinne Centeno, Superintendents Gary Hover <br />and Chris Beth, Secretary Denise Monroe <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to <br />order by Chairperson Bob Yapp at 7: 30pm in the Goldstar Room of the <br />Veterans Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Avenue, Redwood City, <br />California. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />The Commissioners requested that the minutes of the November 13, 2004 <br />Study Session. be revised and re-presented at M'arch meeting for approval. <br /> <br />A correction was made to January 19 minutes. Under Item 1, motion should <br />read: "That the Commission denied the appeal of the heritage tree permit at <br />1491 Sierra Street." The minutes of January 19 were approved as corrected. <br /> <br />CO RRESPO N DEN CE <br /> <br />A flyer was received advertising a presentation entitled" The World's Best and <br />Worst Parks" by Fred Kent on March 2 at 6: OOm at the Little Fox Theatre. <br /> <br />ITEM 1- UPDATE ON GENERAL PLAN BY PRINCIPAL PLANNER TOM <br />PASSANISI <br /> <br />Principal Planner Tom Passanisi gave the Commission an update on the City's <br />General Plan and spoke about how it coordinates with our department's <br />Strategic Plan. Mr. Passanisi explained the General Plan is a State-mandated <br />document and that Redwood City's was last updated in 1990. The General <br />Plan includes seven required elements and several optional elements. He <br />mentioned the Conservation/Open Space element of the General Plan is <br />addressed in our Strategic Plan and that our Strategic Plan will be referenced <br />in the General Plan. <br /> <br />Mr. Passanisi spoke about the steps the City has taken to update the General <br />Plan, including holding several public meetings in order to obtain feedback <br /> <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />
