PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2005 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Yapp, Commissioners Joseph, Swope, and White COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Vice Chairperson Morton, Commissioners Slusser and Truscelli GUESTS PRESENT: Tom Passanisi and Gary Bonte of Planning Department. STAFF PRESENT: Director Corinne Centeno, Superintendents Gary Hover and Chris Beth, Secretary Denise Monroe The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to order by Chairperson Bob Yapp at 7: 30pm in the Goldstar Room of the Veterans Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Avenue, Redwood City, California. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The Commissioners requested that the minutes of the November 13, 2004 Study Session. be revised and re-presented at M'arch meeting for approval. A correction was made to January 19 minutes. Under Item 1, motion should read: "That the Commission denied the appeal of the heritage tree permit at 1491 Sierra Street." The minutes of January 19 were approved as corrected. CO RRESPO N DEN CE A flyer was received advertising a presentation entitled" The World's Best and Worst Parks" by Fred Kent on March 2 at 6: OOm at the Little Fox Theatre. ITEM 1- UPDATE ON GENERAL PLAN BY PRINCIPAL PLANNER TOM PASSANISI Principal Planner Tom Passanisi gave the Commission an update on the City's General Plan and spoke about how it coordinates with our department's Strategic Plan. Mr. Passanisi explained the General Plan is a State-mandated document and that Redwood City's was last updated in 1990. The General Plan includes seven required elements and several optional elements. He mentioned the Conservation/Open Space element of the General Plan is addressed in our Strategic Plan and that our Strategic Plan will be referenced in the General Plan. Mr. Passanisi spoke about the steps the City has taken to update the General Plan, including holding several public meetings in order to obtain feedback .
