<br />DES:yc:2/14/77 R <br /> <br />ORlG1NAL <br /> <br />0 R DIN AN C E <br /> <br />N O. <br /> <br />1697 <br /> <br />FrS 28 1977 <br /> <br />--------- <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE ADDING CHAPTER 8A TO THE CODE OF THE <br />CITY OF REDWOOD CITY RELATING TO THE CONDUCT OF <br />BINGO GAMES FOR CHARITY <br /> <br />THE COUNCIL OF REDWOOD CITY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />SECTION 1. <br /> <br />Chapter 8A is hereby added to the Code of the City <br /> <br />of Redwood City to read as follows: <br /> <br />"CHAPTER 8A <br /> <br />BINGO GAMES FOR CHARITY <br /> <br />"Section 8A.l <br /> <br />Purpose and Intent. <br /> <br />It is the purpose <br /> <br />and intent of the Council in adopting this chapter, pursuant <br /> <br />to Section 19 of Article IV of the State Constitution, to <br /> <br />enable non-profit organizations organized and operated <br /> <br />exclusively for religious, charitable, scientific, literary, <br /> <br />or educational purposes, or for the prevention of cruelty to <br /> <br />children or animals, to conduct bingo games. <br /> <br />Non-Profit Organizations. <br /> <br />For the purposes <br /> <br />"Section 8A.2 <br /> <br />of this chapter, 'non-profit organization' shall include only <br /> <br />those organizations exempted from payment of the bank and <br /> <br />corporation tax by Section 23701(d) of the California Revenue <br /> <br />and Taxation Code, to which a contribution or gift would <br /> <br />qualify as a 'charitable contribution' under Section 170(c) (2) <br /> <br />of the U. S. Internal Revenue Code of 1954. <br /> <br />Bingo Game. <br /> <br />As used in this chapter, <br /> <br />"Section 8A.3 <br /> <br />'bingo game' means a game of chance in which a prize or prizes <br /> <br />are awarded on the basis of a designated alignment of numbers <br /> <br />or symbols on a card which conforms to numbers or symbols <br /> <br />selected at random. <br /> <br />"Section 8A.4 <br /> <br />Permit Required. <br /> <br />Only a non-profit <br /> <br />organization may obtain a permit to operate or conduct a bingo <br /> <br />game, and no such organization shall operate or conduct a <br /> <br />1697 <br />
